Two English giants who turn their attention back to Premier League duties on Saturday evening, Manchester City will welcome Tottenham to the Etihad.
Manchester City
Starting with the hosts, while Manchester City might have been disappointed to have had to settle for a 1-1 draw away at Aston Villa last weekend, Pep Guardiola s men came storming back a few days ago. Opening their Champions League adventure with a thumping 4-0 romp away at Spanish outfit Sevilla, the ex-Barcelona boss should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Although the defending Premier League champions might have shown some recent issues at the back while on domestic duties, the Sky Blues are yet to taste a single defeat since opening the 2022/23 campaign. Tipped as a standout pick to once again defend their crown this season, Guardiola will be calling on his new attacking icon to spearhead their charge here. Bagging yet another brace out in Spain earlier in the week, Erling Haaland has already notched a stunning 12 strikes in his opening eight appearances across all formats.
Team News
Also getting on the scoresheet out in Spain earlier in the week, England international Phil Foden should once again join Haaland in attack here.
However, after having to settle for a spot in City s Champions League opener, the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Nathan Ake and Ilkay Gündogan will be hoping for a full recall on Saturday evening.
Tottenham
As for the visitors, while Tottenham might not have been at their best earlier in the week, Spurs also managed to open their Champions League run with maximum points. Eventually picking up a 2-0 victory at home against French outfit Marseille, Antonio Conte s men have gained plenty of plaudits this season. Clinching a top-four finish back in May and with some even tipping them to mount a shock title charge this time around, the former Inter Milan boss has seen his side muster 14 points from their opening six Premier League appearances. Last seen on top-flight duties picking up a 2-1 win at home against a high-flying Fulham, Tottenham should be boosted by an eye-catching record against Sunday s hosts. Including an action-packed 3-2 victory when they made the trip to the Etihad back on February 19th, it should be noted that Conte s side have picked up back-to-back wins against the defending champions.
Team News
After bagging both goals in Tottenham s 2-1 win against Marseille earlier in the week, summer arrival Richarlison will be hoping to keep his place on Saturday evening.
Given a rest on Wednesday night, Wales international Ben Davies should replace summer arrival Clément Lenglet at the back here.
