Mount shrugs off Real, Barcelona talk

Mason Mount of Chelsea has been tipped to join Real Madrid or Barcelona at a future point in his career, but at the moment, he is not interested in that kind of talk.

Speaking to Dutch outlet , Mitchell van Bergen, who played alongside Mount during his loan spell with Vitesse Arnhem in 2017/18, declared that Mount had what it takes to reach the top, and he could see him play for Real or Barcelona one day.

Mount spent last season on loan at Derby County, where he played under Frank Lampard. The pair of them are now at Chelsea together, and the 20-year-old midfielder seems to have made the most of the opportunity presented to him by the transfer ban the club have been imposed with. Unable to sign new players this summer, Lampard has been forced to place his faith in the l…

Newcastle secure Luuk de Jong loan; Sassuolo complete Sanabria capture

Newcastle United have confirmed the loan signing of Luuk de Jong from Borussia Moenchengladbach until the end of the season.

The Holland international, 23, could put pen to paper on a permanent deal at St James Park in the summer.

De Jong, who has been assigned the No. 18 shirt, could make his Magpies debut in the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland on Saturday.

The 23-year-old joined Moenchengladbach in a deal worth €15 million in July 2012 but has failed to live up to the reputation he established at Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente from 2009 to 2012.

Newcastle is a great club and I have a good feeling about it, de Jong told the club s official website, .

I am very impressed with the stadium and training ground and have been mad…

Van Basten happy with AZ´s ´good first step´

New AZ coach Marco van Basten labelled his team s 3-0 win over Heracles in their Eredivisie opener on Saturday as a good first step .

The 49-year-old quit his position as Heerenveen coach at the end of last season, having announced he would take over at AZ in April, and Van Basten started his new job impressively with a big win away from home.

After a scoreless first half, Steven Berghuis, Guus Hupperts and Muamer Tankovic produced the goals for the visitors and Van Basten was thrilled to see each of his forwards get on the scoresheet in AZ s first game of the 2014-15 Eredivisie season.

Nice that all strikers have scored, 3-0 here is not ordinary, he said.

They [Heracles] play very dynamic, with many attackers. The defence was good for us and slowly we …

Bitesize Prediction: Clermont vs Lille – 28/12/22

Market: Lille win

Odds: 5/6 @

Looking to mark their Ligue 1 return with a statement on the road, Lille will make the trip to Clermont on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Clermont might have impressed many across France when opening the 2022/23 campaign, Les Lanciers had largely failed to keep up that same momentum before heading into the festive break. Last seen on Ligue 1 duties getting hit with a 2-1 loss away at Lens on November 12th, Pascal Gastien s men have come tumbling down the top-flight table. Along with failing to find any stability during their winter interval, the former Niort boss has seen his side fail to win any of their last five Ligue 1 outings. With that run highlighted by a 3-1 drumming at home against Brest on October 23rd, …

Nigeria 3 Algeria 1: Moses and Mikel boost World Cup hopes

Chelsea duo Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel starred as Nigeria moved into full control of their World Cup qualifying group with a 3-1 home victory over Algeria in Uyo.

Moses and Mikel were on target in the first half, before Nabil Bentaleb s goal after the break gave Algeria hope of a comeback.

But Moses scored his second in the final moments as Gernot Rohr s side won their second straight game in the final stage of CAF qualification.

The win puts the Super Eagles four points clear of nearest challengers Cameroon in Group B, with Algeria and Zambia a further one behind. Only the pool winners will make it to Russia in 2018.

Moses had already created the best early chance in the first meeting between the two sides since the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations when h…

Guidetti must pick Celtic – Deila

John Guidetti would be crazy to swap Celtic for a mid-table Premier League club, according to the Scottish outfit s manager Ronny Deila.

Guidetti has shone on loan at Celtic this season, scoring eight goals in as many games in all competitions, including a hat-trick in a 6-0 thrashing of Partick Thistle in the Scottish League Cup on Wednesday.

Celtic boss Deila conceded money will play a part in any permanent deal with Guidetti who is on the books of Manchester City but the 39-year-old manager reckons the Swedish striker would regret leaving Parkhead for a middle of the road club in England s top flight.

Celtic, if you take away the money, is still one of the biggest clubs in the world, Deila said.

If you come here you have everything. You have stadium,…

Bauza stirs Real Madrid, claims Messi above Ronaldo

San Lorenzo coach Edgardo Bauza stirred Club World Cup rivals Real Madrid, claiming Lionel Messi is better than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bauza s men are on a collision course with the UEFA Champions League winners, with the two sides drawn in opposite semi-finals at the FIFA-sanctioned event in Morocco.

The Copa Libertadores holders will play either of ES Setif, Moghreb Tetouan or Auckland City for a spot in the December 20 final to be crowned the best club in the world but will likely battle star-studded Real for that honour.

And weighing into the constant Messi-Ronaldo debate, Bauza claimed his fellow Argentinian Messi had Ronaldo covered despite the latter hotly tipped to bag the Ballon d Or for the second year running on January 12.

For me, Messi is the o…

Tottenham 1 Manchester City 3: Leaders battle back to winning ways

Manchester City avoided a repeat of the second-half collapses that have haunted them this week as they moved to within a win of the Premier League title with a 3-1 victory at Tottenham.

As in their 3-2 derby defeat to Manchester United last weekend and the confirmation of their Champions League exit against Liverpool on Tuesday, Pep Guardiola s side were close to their scintillating best during the opening exchanges at Wembley and established a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes.

Gabriel Jesus 10th Premier League goal of the season and an Ilkay Gundogan penalty – replays showed the contact from Hugo Lloris lunge on Raheem Sterling occurred fractionally outside the box – put City in the driving seat but Christian Eriksen reducing the arrears in the 42nd minute left the runawa…

Leicester want Porto’s Pereira

manager Claude Puel has embarked on a mission to improve the Foxes’ defence, and one of the players he’s looking to add to his squad is Porto’s Ricardo Pereira, .

Pereira has reportedly been offered a new, improved deal to remain at his current club, but it is believed he has his heart set on a move to England. Apart from Leicester, the right-back is being watched by Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Juventus.

In Leicester’s Premier League game against Southampton, Marc Albrighton, who usually plays as a midfielder or a winger, was preferred to right-back Danny Simpson for the spot on the right flank of defence. Simpson was left on the bench.

Pereira would cost the 2015/16 Premier League winners around £22 million, the report claims. The 24-year-…

It nearly made me vomit – Klopp gutted by late Bournemouth equaliser

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was so exasperated by Bournemouth s late equaliser in Tuesday s 2-2 draw at Anfield that it nearly made him vomit .

Klopp s men looked to be on course to take all three Premier League points when Divock Origi – starting in place of the injured Sadio Mane – headed Liverpool into a 2-1 lead just shy of the hour-mark.

But Joshua King stunned Liverpool three minutes from time to leave the Reds chances of stealing second place from Tottenham looking bleak.

And Klopp whose Liverpool are third in the table and five points adrift of Tottenham was gutted by the late blow, saying that he had to battle to hold back bodily fluids.

A frustrating end.
