Defending Premier League champions Chelsea 8/13 to see past struggling Newcastle

Competition: Premier League
Market: Chelsea to win against Newcastle
Odds:

Out-of-form Newcastle United welcome Premier League champions Chelsea to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, and boast a very impressive head-to-head record in their own backyard to the Blues. However, with how poor Steve McClaren’s side have been this season, Chelsea could well be ending their poor run of form in the North-East to continue their own momentum of late.

Newcastle United are 19th in the Premier League table after six games this season, and are one of three sides without a win in the division. The Magpies are coming off the back of three consecutive defeats, and are the lowest scorers early on.

United have picked up only two points from a possible 18, and have been shutout four times already. Two points adrift of safety, they need a win this weekend or they could find themselves with a larger deficit to make up.

Strangely, this has been a kind fixture to the Toon Army in the past. United have a fantastic record against Chelsea at St James’ Park, winning their last three meetings as the home side. Newcastle’s last defeat against the Londoners came back in 2011, but they could well come unstuck this time round given the lack of wins in the Premier League in the last nine months.

Newcastle have won just four of their last 29 games in the division, while Chelsea have picked up three consecutive victories in all competitions to turn their form around. The Blues have come out on top in two of their last three clashes against Newcastle too, so they’re in good shape to end their losing run at St James’ Park.
